Title of Clinical Placement Ophthalmology.
Placement Overview One week (shared with ENT). Monday am - Ophthalmology Clinical Skills workshop (and ENT induction). As the placement is so short, it requires supplementation: a) four online Zoom sessions, covering interactive cases, b) each student gets one two hour lecture provided by the BHSCT, covering ophthalmology clinical content.

Placement Duration 1 week (shared with ENT).
Placement Learning Outcomes By the end of the year, students should be able to:
• to acquire the knowledge and skills required to assess and manage common or sight threatening eye problems
Specific Learning Outcomes 1. Perform visual acuity measurement, direct ophthalmoscopy, visual field testing by confrontation, pupillary examination, ocular motility assessment and have basic familiarity with the slit lamp; 2. Interpret photos of anterior segments and fundi of common or sight threatening eye conditions 3. Exhibit professionalism; 4. General Objectives • to gain insights into what ophthalmology is like as a hospital specialty, for patients and for doctors
• to reflect more generally on doctor-patient interactions as seen in ophthalmology

Expected Attendance 100%
Teaching Opportunities Each student typically is timetabled to: one Eye Casualty session, on Ophthalmology Clinic, two ENT clinics and one ENT or Ophthalmology theatre session, sometimes more if timetabling allows.
Required Clinical Skills Visual acuity measurement, direct ophthalmoscopy, visual field testing by confrontation, pupillary examination, ocular motility assessment (and have basic familiarity with the slit lamp).

MyProgress Requirements Needing signed off are: all clinical skills listed above, attendance at the Clinical Skills Workshop, attendance at Eye Casualty and attendance at an Ophthalmology OR ENT theatre.

Supervision Structure At each clinical session, a Consultant is named as their supervisor, and Dr Williams has overall responsibility as both QUB and BHSCT lead for ophthalmology.
